People who prepare foods for others as child care providers, organizations, concession stand workers or even at the local church suppers often rely on cooking skills they use at home to prepare foods for hundreds. That's not always a good idea. If important food safety principles are not followed, a fun-filled food related event could turn into a deadly disaster.
Food service managers and employees are often trained in food safety through ServSafe and Employee ServSafe training. Now the non-food professionals can learn all the important safe food techniques for meal preparation and service. Preparing Food Safely for Child Care, Churches, and Concessions is a two hour class that covers the causes of food borne illnesses and the basic knowledge and skills of food safety as it relates to food preparation, serving and storage in non-commercial food service settings, such as homes, churches, and concession stands.
This workshop is sponsored by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Office. Amy Peterson, MS RD, Polk County Extension Educator, is the class instructor.
